KIDS DO THE DARNDEST THINGS

Let me introduce you to my 6-year-old grand son Darron. A cute red headed, freckled-faced little boy, who’s full of energy and always into something. I know he sure does look sweet, but don’t let that innocent smile fool you. If you think for a minute he may be innocent, just have a talk with his mother.

One morning while everyone else in the house was sleeping, Darron decided to get up real early, and practice being a barber. His mother Amanda was having a peaceful sleep and did not realize what her oldest child was up to, until it was too late. Now scissors are a very tempting item to leave lying around, and the perfect opportunity for the average 6 year old to take advantage of. Darron got the idea that since his mother had gotten her bangs trimmed the previous day, that he needed his bangs trimmed also, and why should you put out money for a barber when you can do it yourself.

Saving money is a real good idea to say the least, but the problem is that this future barber got carried away and cut all of his bangs completely off to the scalp. When he got started, he was having so much fun he didn’t know when to quit.

I tried to assure his mother that her son was just being a normal kid and that every child goes through cutting their hair at least once in their life. Maybe I should have kept that bit of information to myself because she has two other children; Elijah age 3 and Caitlin age 11 months. She may want to get rid of scissors from her home altogether, until the kids graduate from college, or hide them in a real good place.

Darron is in the first grade and has taken a real interest in art. He loves to draw and color. He received an art kit for Christmas this year and his mother tells me he’s going to be an artist when he grows up. I tell her I’m not so sure that art is his talent; I think he just might grow up to be a barber. After all, he did a magnificent job on his bangs.
